Superintendent Nicholas J. Norcia

Nick Norcia was appointed Superintendent of the Fair Lawn Public Schools in July 2018, after spending 17 years serving in special education primarily as an administrator and teacher in New Jersey public schools.

As superintendent, Norcia overseas the third largest school district in Bergen County, managing a budget of more than $100 million dollars, more than 5,000 students, and over 1,000 staff members. The Fair Lawn Public Schools (FLPS) district comprises ten schools: six elementary schools (K-4); two middle schools (5-8) and one high school (9-12) and Edison School, which serves more than 80 students with special needs.

In 2017, Norcia served as the Assistant Superintendent of Students Service for FLPS, overseeing more than 1,200 special education students and managing a $39 million dollar budget. As assistant superintendent, Norcia implemented a Mental Health Initiative to support all students and collaborated with the former superintendent on the now-approved $25 million dollar school referendum to expand FLPS classroom space and relocate fifth grade to the middle schools. 

From 2010-2017, Norcia spent seven years a Director of Special Services at Morris Hills Regional School District and three years as Director of Special Services (K-12) at the Cedar Grove Board of Education. He spent five years at the Nutley Board of Education serving as a learning disabilities consultant and special education teacher. He began his career in education as a special education teacher at Ridgefield Board of Education. 

From 2006-2012, Norcia taught special education to undergraduate and graduate students as an adjunct professor at William Paterson University in Wayne, N.J.

In 2007, Norcia earned a professional certificate in Learning Disabilities with an endorsement as a Learning Disabilities Teacher Consultant from William Paterson University in Wayne, N.J. He holds a M.A. in Educational Leadership and a B.A. in Special Education with a concentration in Psychology, both from New Jersey City University in Jersey City, N.J. Norcia holds certificates in Elementary Education, Special Education, Learning Disability Teacher Consultant, Principal, and Superintendent.

A native of New Jersey, Norcia resides in northern New Jersey with his wife and two children. His hobbies include spending time with family and cooking.
