Gerry Genuino Memorial Garden

The Gerry Genuino Memorial Garden was installed in front of the district's Transportation Department in April 2021 by Building & Grounds. The district's Transportation Department organized a memorial tribute in honor of Gerry Genuino after the school community, family and friends raised funds for the memorial garden. Gerry sadly passed in April 2020 from COVID-19. He worked as a bus driver for the district for many years (and a few as a custodian) and was adored by students, staff and colleagues.

Parent and Student Responsibilities

Subscription Busing to TJMS & FLHS

  • Parents are responsible for the safety of students until they board the bus to school. Parents are encouraged to discuss with their children safety and proper behavior at their bus stops.

  • Students must wait for their bus in a safe place, off the roadway. Do not play or wait in the road. Students should also respect the property of the area at which your stop is located.

  • Only students who are eligible will be permitted to ride the bus. Eligible students will be required to show their bus pass in order to board the bus.

  • All students MUST wear a mask at all times while aboard the bus.

  • Students are required to get on and off the bus at the assigned bus stops only.

  • Please be sure to be at the bus stop at least 5 minutes prior to the stop time. Please allow an additional 5 – 10 minutes after the stop time for the bus in case there are any unforeseen circumstances that might cause the bus to be late such as traffic or inclement weather. If the bus does not arrive within a reasonable amount of time, it is recommended that you call the Transportation Department for information @201-794-5522 X6603.

  • Students should not approach the bus until it has completely stopped and the driver has opened the door. If the student must cross a roadway to get to the stop, you should cross only when the school bus arrives and stops, the red lights are flashing and the driver has signaled to cross. ALWAYS cross in front of a bus, NEVER behind.

  • Students are to enter the bus in an orderly manner, take a seat, buckle their seat belt and remain seated.

  • Students are not allowed to have food or drink on the bus.

  • Students should keep their head and arms inside the bus at all times. Keep the aisles clear of feet, legs, arms, backpacks etc.

  • Students should keep the noise level at a minimum for the safest driving conditions. Sound producing equipment is prohibited.

  • No student shall possess or carry a weapon of any type on the bus.

  • No student shall use, possess, sell, or solicit the sale of any controlled substance on the bus unless specifically authorized by a medical physician.

  • Students should always follow the bus driver’s instructions. The bus driver has the authority to assign or change seats whenever necessary. Students should behave appropriately and be courteous to the driver and fellow passengers.

  • All students shall abide by the District Code of Conduct for Students.

  • Vandalism to any part of the bus will not be tolerated and will be treated with appropriate discipline.

  • Students are to be on time at the end of the school day. Once the driver closes the door and the bus begins to move, the driver is not permitted to open the door for anyone else under any circumstances.

  • When departing the bus, students must step off the bus carefully and be sure to walk far enough away from the bus and roadway. If you must cross a roadway at the stop, be sure to cross at least 10 feet IN FRONT of the bus and wait until driver has signaled you to cross. NEVER cross behind a bus.

Rules and Expectations

Rules and expectations for students are directly related to student safety. The safest ride possible will be provided by the school district through the cooperation of the students, parents, faculty and the drivers and aides. These rules are enforced by the transportation department and the building administrators. Your child should realize that permission to ride the school bus can be withdrawn if order and conduct are unruly. Students who violate safety procedures will be reported by the transportation staff to the appropriate building administrator. Violations will result in disciplinary actions up to and including suspension or removal of the student from the bus as decided by the Supervisor of Transportation and/or building administrator.
